FASTING
In His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus gives His followers practical instruction on fasting—inviting them to do it with sincerity and a heart focused on God. (Matthew 6:16–18).
Why do we fast?
Fasting is about stepping away from things we enjoy—like food—and using that time to focus more on prayer. It helps us hear God more clearly and get better at sensing His direction in our lives.
Starting Monday, August 4, we’re setting aside 21 days to pursue God through intentional prayer and fasting. These are not just spiritual disciplines—they are powerful tools God gives us to realign our hearts with His.
Fasting isn’t about striving or earning God’s favor. It’s about creating space—removing distractions and comforts—to hear His voice more clearly and respond more fully. It’s a way of saying, “God, You come first. We want more of You, and less of everything else that competes for our attention.”
During this time, we are specifically praying for:
- Spiritual growth in the hearts of our people
- A fresh move of God in our church
- Kingdom advancement in our city and beyond
We’re believing God to do what only He can—revive, restore, and draw people deeper into His purpose.
3 Fasting Options for 21 Days of Prayer
As we seek spiritual growth in our church and advancement of the Kingdom, here are a few types of fasts you can consider:
1. The Daniel Fast
A partial food fast based on Daniel 10:2–3. Focus on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, and water—avoiding meat, dairy, sugar, and processed foods.
Use this fast to draw closer to God with a clear mind and body, asking Him to grow His church in wisdom, strength, and faith.
2. Social Media or Screen Fast
Step away from social media, TV, or other non-essential screen time.
Use this fast to silence distractions and make room to hear God’s voice as we ask Him to move powerfully through our church and bring more people into His Kingdom.
3. One-Meal-a-Day Fast
Choose one meal each day to skip (commonly lunch), and dedicate that time to intentional prayer, worship, or Bible reading.
Use this fast to pray specifically for growth in discipleship, stronger connections within the body of Christ, and opportunities to reach the lost.
We’ll also be joining our friends at
Church on the Shores (541 Cotton Creek Drive, Gulf Shores, AL 36542)
for in-person corporate prayer every Monday morning from 6:00–7:00AM during the fast.
